Gardens with a story

A closer look at my work: thoughtful planting, reclaimed materials, handcrafted features, and lighting that gives outdoor spaces a different life after dusk.

01 — Woodland garden & reclaimed entrance

I built the benches and installed the low-voltage lighting throughout this woodland garden. The old-growth trunk backdrop was brought up from the woods in three sections and reassembled beside the firepit.

A substantial timber bench was made using wood reclaimed from a school tree ahead of demolition. I belt-sanded the surface and applied an epoxy blend to preserve its colour and give it a wet-look finish. Found bricks and beach stones helped tie the seating, paths, and planting into the setting.

I transformed a bare entrance using a salvaged glass-panel door, fresh paint, a replacement light fixture, adjustable LED accent lighting, miniature kiwi planting, and thoughtfully sourced furniture and finishing touches. The result is an inviting outdoor room with a character of its own.

02 — From neglected yard to flourishing garden

This yard began as an unproductive space dominated by morning glory and tall grass. I created rose, dahlia, and vegetable gardens, bringing colour, seasonal interest, and food growing into the landscape.

I also built a dog pond with a four-stage filtration system. The photographs trace the work from the early garden and pond excavation through to flowering beds and an inviting place to spend an evening.

03 — Garden restoration & ongoing care

These before-and-after views show three more sides of my work: bringing definition back to waterfront garden borders, reclaiming access around overgrown raised beds, and restoring clear edges between lawn and planting. Each sequence shows the existing garden and the result of focused, practical care.
